About MARE

MARE recognizes

  • That there is a state of environmental emergency (climate crisis, collapse of biodiversity, widespread pollution).
  • That it is imperative to protect and restore our ecosystems.
  • That the status quo is unacceptable, for Humanity, all living things and the planet.
  • That the environmental emergency is a collective problem, that it is not possible to solve this problem individually and that individual actions cannot be enough.
  • That the infinite growth demanded by capitalism poses a threat to our survival, because it involves the continual increase in the use of planetary resources which, they, are not endless.
  • That the defense of the environment is part of the more global struggle for a just and equitable society, organized according to the well-being of all living beings and not for the benefit of a privileged minority. Social justice and environmental justice are inseparable.
  • That the establishment of the structures necessary to resolve the environmental crisis is part of a global paradigm shift where private interest and competition give way to collective interest, in solidarity and cooperation.
  • That political leaders have the power to change the laws, the rules that govern life in society, but that only sustained popular mobilization is able to bring about the change of course necessary to achieve social and environmental justice.

What we want to promote:

  • A social project that combines social justice and environmental justice.
  • Participation in collective decisions; it is about determining together the future of our neighborhood, of our community, of our society in a perspective of participatory democracy.
  • Desélusqui participate in the social and environmental transformation project.
  • A community that responds to the needs of its population in a united manner.
  • A community in transformation towards a sustainable way of life (ex : public policies aimed at carbon neutrality).
  • Economic health (ex : decent income and adequate housing for all).
  • Cultural and community health (ex : education, leisure and culture for all).
  • Proximity and accessibility to essential shops and services and sustainable mobility. (Ex : pedestrian and cycling network and generalized public transport).
  • Infrastructures that encourage eco-responsible behavior (ex :community gardens, public markets).
  • A community where biodiversity is protected and ecosystems balanced.
  • A community that protects its natural spaces and ensures their public access.
  • A community that protects and enhances the built heritage and the invisible heritage.

In short,a healthy community that ensures a harmonious living together.

Our actions consist of :

  • Support people and groups who want to protect their natural environments.
  • Organize popular education activities (EPA).
  • Initiate or support specific actions (ex : cleaning chores, tree plantations).
  • Lead or support political campaigns (ex: organization of events).
  • Promote and support positive initiatives through our communication tools.
  • Interact with public decision-makers.
  • Foster the networking of individuals and groups working to improve social and environmental justice.

The objective of the MARE is to support citizens and organizations in their environmental projects, particularly in the regions of Vaudreuil-Soulanges. / Beauharnois-Salaberry / Deux-Montagnes and Laval. The MARE Laurentides was also born in 2021 and we believe the movement will spread to other regions in the coming years. These projects can be political in nature, social, technical or other and take extremely varied forms.

What sets MARE apart

MARE empowers, by force of number, to those who feel lonely and helpless. It helps build a network of ideas and skills. It also aims to create bridges between different environmental groups and individuals wishing to get involved in the environmental cause. He wants to link people together to form a community that is able to take action. MARE fills a gap in cooperation between people, groups and regions, with regard to environmental actions.

MARE is a citizen movement and not a registered body. It is not subsidized, it is not linked to any political party or government structure, thus retaining all its independence of action and speech.

We normally send one communication per week. In this one, there is information on our meetings, upcoming events that MARE is organizing or participating in and invitations to interesting events taking place in the region. Our victories and the progress of our campaigns are also indicated there.. So, our members keep up to date with the progress of our action campaigns.

In a good mood

We make sure to put in place measures promoting a warm climate in all of our activities. This is one of the elements that distinguish the MARE and that has contributed to its success. In order to break the isolation of groups and individuals, we notably hold "MARE parties" on the occasion. These contribute to the creation and solidification of as many links as possible between the individuals and the entities that form the MARE, as well as strengthening the sense of belonging to the movement.

Au MARE, avoiding value judgments and criticisms of the habits and lifestyles of other members of the MARE. No one is perfect and unity must take precedence over differences of opinion to promote the achievement of our common goals. We focus on what brings us together and not on what could divide us.

Our members

The people who are part of the movement are of various ages and horizons, they don’t all have the same background or the same ideas. However, this is what makes MARE so rich and which, by joining forces, allows the achievement of beautiful exploits, transcending individual interests for the benefit of the common good.

Decision-making structure

Any question that may be subject to debate within the cell must be taken up during a public meeting. The assembly is sovereign and decisions are taken unanimously as far as possible.

In the event that consensus cannot be reached at the close of a meeting, the question should be asked again at the next meeting. So, those who wish may exercise their right to vote. The agenda must then be sent to all members before the next meeting. A two-thirds majority vote of the members present and voting will then be necessary for the adoption of a resolution.. There could be no vote on an item that was not previously placed on the agenda and communicated to all regional members..

A question requiring a decision to be made before the next meeting must absolutely be adopted by consensus among the members present and voting.
