Good news (20 November 2020)!!!

While the protection of the Rousseau woods seemed to us acquired, the Municipality of Pincourt undertook a public consultation which ended on 20 October. A total of 1084 signatures would have allowed the municipality to hold a referendum, thus calling into question the safeguard of this ecosystem.

During the council meeting of 20 last november, the City announced that, since only 524 signatures had been collected, the by-law decreeing the necessary loan to purchase the forest in order to ensure its protection was now officially adopted ! We would like to congratulate the entire Pincourt Vert team for their courage and determination throughout this struggle. !!!

Only shadow on the board : the City has established a comprehensive taxation method, in addition to a special tax for two residential pools.

The MARE fears that this decision will set a harmful precedent for the protection of natural environments by placing the burden of protecting ecosystems on the shoulders of a small part of the population. In our opinion, safeguarding the environment is a collective challenge that must be taken on collectively. We believe it is essential to consider other options.

Good news (28 July 2020)!!!

The city of Pincourt, the 28 July 2020, unanimously adopted a resolution to acquire the Rousseau woodland in order to ensure its protection!

This resolution authorizes the Director General to present to the CMM, the Rousseau woodland acquisition project with a view to obtaining a grant under phase II of the Financial Assistance Program for projects contributing to the establishment of the Green and blue frame

This is a great victory for Pincourt vert and the MARE is proud to have been able to support this group of citizens in their struggle.

Good news (8 October 2019) !!!

During the meeting of the municipal council of Pincourt du 8 October 2019, the members of the board had undertaken to enter into negotiations with the real estate developers with the aim of protect Rousseau forest.

We will obviously have to stay tuned in this matter, but this victory demonstrates the importance of uniting people and organizations in the region in their struggles to protect the environment.

Citizens of Pincourt fight, since 2018, to preserve the Rousseau forest, the last rainforest in the municipality. Several plots have been purchased by a developer who wishes to build there 47 dwellings.

Rousseau forest has remarkable biodiversity. Furthermore, wetlands are increasingly rare. Of 70% at 90% wetlands have been destroyed in urban and agricultural areas of Quebec. However, they play an essential role on several levels : flood prevention, fight against climate change, heat reduction, fight against noise pollution, …

Actions you MARE

Faced with the urgency of the situation, the MARE has decided to support the citizens of Pincourt vert in their fight to preserve the Rousseau forest.

So, people from MARE, the 10 September 2019, have filed a communicated to the municipal council of Pincourt asking the municipality to work to protect this forest. This document was also handed over, at the same time, to the Minister of the Environment, Mr. Benoit Charette.
