Environmental crisis and lack of security in Kanesatake :
Open letter to sign

For long months, The Aboriginal community of Kanesatake shouts its need for help to resolve a chronic crisis in contamination of their territory and violence related to organized crime. (For more details, Click here.)  A conflict of internal governance makes this crisis even more complex.

Federal and provincial governments regularly refer the ball and nothing happens. Media flares surface time and time and fall back into inaction. Meanwhile citizens continue to suffer, in the Aboriginal community, but also non-none, and environmental health continues to deteriorate.

A group of citizens and organizations (don't BIG them) is currently involved in an attempt to make things happen.

  • Because it is necessary to stop immediately the intense contamination of the soil and water in the region, and permanently.
  • Because it is not organized crime to reign and silence the first inhabitants of this land.
  • Because between two press articles, children, adults and old people continue to live under threat.
  • Because public security is a precondition for any individual and collective development.

We are asking for your support today, as a citizen or group, By signing an open letter demanding from our elected officials a plan to restore public security in the region and that the latter allows each person to express themselves in the intimidation.

Let's break the silence and lighten suffering to Kanehsatà:the

the MARE, like more than a hundred other environmental groups, is a partner in the decontamination campaign for the Kanehsatà dump:ke and the fight against environmental racism across the country. More detailsICI.

This is why we send you this message from allied groups against environmental racism in Kanehsatà:Ke and encourage you to write to the Federal Minister for Couronne-Autochtone Relations as well as the Quebec Minister responsible for First Nations relations and Inuit in order to request an immediate public declaration on the situation in Kanesatake accompanied by commitments on future corrective actions and a calendar for their implementation.

” After a hopeful start to summer, We are deeply saddened to present this update to you.

  • Despite the call for help launched by the inhabitants of Kanehsatà:ke to end the spills of toxic products and criminal intimidation…
  • Despite all the momentum our campaign has aroused to support the call of residents, including a demonstration in front of the office of Minister Miller…
  • Despite a parade of major reports in the main media denouncing the situation of the community as a "state of lawlessness" and an "environmental delay" bomb ".
  • Despite a very publicized tripartite meeting to resolve the crisis in May between Federal Minister Patty Hajdu,  The Quebec Minister responsible for Relations with First Nations and Inuitian Lafrenière and the Grand Chief of the Council Mohawk of Kanesatake Victor Bonspille

Despite all this public craze in May and June 2023, and years of awareness of the problems with which the community faces, Nothing has been done to date to mitigate the sufferings of residents of Kanehsatà:KE and no official declaration was made on this situation by the Federal Minister of Couronne-Autochton Relations or the Quebec Minister responsible for Relations with First Nations and Inuit.

As the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation approaches, We think he is our duty, as an allochone ally, to denounce the negligence and inaction of governments when our sisters and native brothers continue to suffer.

We believe that the silence of the federal and provincial ministers on the crisis faced by the residents of Kanehsatà:Ke is shameful and scandalous, And we hope you share this feeling with us !
