Demonstrations and meetings for social justice and…

21 February 2023 : Rally of the TROVEP “Inequalities and a disrupted climate Enough is enough!”

16 May 2022 : TROVEP and MARE meet the provincial deputy for Beauharnois county

The 16 May, theTROVEP Montérégie (regional table of voluntary organizations in popular education), as part of its Monteregian tour of provincial deputies, met Claude Reid, MP for Beauharnois.

TROVEP invited MARE to be present in support of its approach.

The message we delivered :

  • Reminder of the conclusions of the recent IPCC report,
  • Highlighting the fact that the impacts of the environmental crisis are experienced disproportionately more acutely among vulnerable and impoverished populations,
  • Reminder of our conception of the role of the State: ensure the common good and the well-being of all in a long-term perspective, which implies the establishment of structures that will promote these objectives. Ex: Wealth taxation, investments in accessible public transport and not in new highways !!!!, measures for access to health and education, penalties for major polluters, etc.

Our demands to the deputy, in the face of the climate emergency, to commit to :

  • Recognize the climate crisis and the convergence of crises that is currently developing,
  • Recognize that to counter these crises an Emergency Plan, such as the DUC Plan must be activated NOW,
  • Work to activate the projects and measures of the DUC Plan,
  • Recognize the urgency of improving and consolidating the social safety net in order to help vulnerable populations cope with these crises,
  • Bring those demands back into the firm and push for faster change,
  • Intervene in his county to advance these demands,
  • Make a commitment during the next election to carry these orientations.

The rally organized by the MARE in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield was a great success. Despite the 6th wave of the pandemic, about 50 people gathered to relay the demands of the MEPACQ :

That the governments of Quebec and Canada

1) Ban fossil fuels from here 2030

2) Massively tax wealth to reinvest in the social safety net.

We would like to thank the environmental groups, community and unions who have joined us. Special thanks to the gang of the Valleyfield Youth Center who presented their work to us : a huge metal sturgeon made entirely of recycled metals.

Also a big thank you to the people who participated, at the end of this gathering, cleaning the banks of avenue du Centenaire !

Mars 2021

TheTROVEPand the MARE, as part of the international appeal of the movement “Friday for the future” invited environmental groups, but also community organizations, unions and citizens of the region to participate in a demonstration under the slogan “Enough empty promises !” We know that climate change is going to affect the poorest people first and that is why ecological justice and social justice are one and the same fight.

These are more than 120 people who answered our call this Friday 19 mars !!!

Thank you to everyone for this solidarity. It is by joining forces that we will succeed in making a difference.

The rally took place at Place des Tisserands in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. A step has, thereafter, took place in the direction of the town hall, of the Marcil park, Parc des Mouettes and Parc de la Barrière.

We have generated a coming together of various social and community groups, such as, for example, representatives of the Islamic Cultural Center of Valleyfield who joined the initiative.

Let us hope that this extraordinary mobilization will have made it possible to make our demands heard at the various levels of government. :

– Reinforce the social safety net now and in a sustainable way;

– Cancel projects with high GHG emissions, in particular LNG Quebec;

– Guarantee an income for all to live in dignity;

– Abandon the use of fossil and nuclear energies;

– Protect natural environments so that everyone has access to nature;

– That the government commit to putting in place the climate emergency plan ofDUC projects.
