Support for Save the wetlands of St-Zotique

Following a nine-storey condo construction project on wetlands in the municipality of Saint-Zotique, a group of citizens was formed in 2017 : Save the Saint-Zotique wetlands. Since, this group is fighting to ensure the protection of this territory.

Actions you MARE

The MARE has launched a campaign to support “Save the wetlands”. We thus participated in the clean-up chore during which more than a ton of waste was removed from these wetlands. Click here to read the article published in the newspaper Le Saint-François on this subject.

We also organized a species census activity in which, with the help of ornithologists, it was possible to identify 47 different species of birds present in the wetlands of Saint-Zotique, which proves the rich biodiversity of this territory.

The 15 October 2019, we submitted the press release that had been submitted to the municipal council of Saint-Zotique, a month ago, to the Minister of the Environment as well as to the municipal council of Pincourt.

Thanks to the efforts of Save wetlands in St-Zotique, with the support of MARE, the mayor assured us "that’ there were no longer any developer projects targeting the wetlands on either side of 65th Avenue (wetlands at the heart of the action of Save wetlands) and that studies evaluating the biodiversity of this territory should absolutely be carried out in the event that developers are interested in these lands. »
Nothing can be taken for granted in this matter and we will continue to fight for the preservation of this wonderful site, but this assures us of its protection in the short term.
