the MARE, in collaboration with Crivert, is proud to support, for several months now, the Regroupement for the protection of fauna and flora of Parc de la Barrière in its efforts.
This Regroupement feared that the white-tailed deer, but also the whole ecosystem, have a difficult future in the Parc de la Barrière sector in Valleyfield. It is known that several white-tailed deer live in the area where we will soon see appearing 1000 new homes. A new development is also planned in the area known as Le Petit Bois Vert.. Poor management of this area containing endangered species such as the brown snake could have a negative impact on citizens as well as on Valleyfield's biodiversity..
The 16 mars 2021, we had the opportunity to submit a document (click here to view this document) endorsed by Crivert and speakSmall Green Wood Protection Committee in order to present to the Environment and Public Works department of the municipality our fears, but also several possible solutions. We would like to thank the Environment department for their welcome and for the rich discussions that took place.. We now hope that the solutions we propose will allow, in the short term, better protection of the flora and fauna of Parc de la Barrière, but also citizens of this neighborhood. To be continued …
